We’re very pleased to share some exciting news about the future of our Band Program.
Following our search for a new conductor, we are delighted to announce that we have secured Amy Fox to conduct the bands.
Amy is currently in her second year conducting the band program at Wideview PS, and will be taking on our bands alongside her existing role. We see this as a wonderful opportunity for our program. Having one conductor working across both schools will create opportunities for collaboration between the bands, including combined rehearsals, performances and other musical experiences that may not otherwise be possible.
Importantly, this arrangement also allows us to return to a two-band format in 2027. This means all current students will move up to the senior Performance Band next year, and new enrolments in 2027 will form a separate Training Band. This allows students to rehearse and perform with others at a similar stage in their musical development, allowing more experienced players to continue to be challenged and progress. We believe this will provide a much stronger musical experience for all of our band members.
There is, however, one change to the program that we want families to be aware of. Due to the small number of students currently participating in the Band Program, we have unfortunately been unable to secure music tuition services to provide the private instrumental lessons. This means that from 2027, families will need to arrange their own private instrumental tutor for lessons.
We know this is a change for families, and we want to make the transition as easy as possible. The good news is that there are a number of instrumental tutors available locally in Berowra and the surrounding area. We are currently putting together a list of local tutor options to share with families to help you find someone suitable.
We were particularly impressed by Amy’s enthusiasm for working with young musicians and her ideas and flexibility around conducting smaller ensemble sizes. We’re excited about the energy she will bring to our bands and the opportunities this new partnership could create for our students.
